It is Midsummer Eve. Summer vacation has started and at a campground in Sweden socially incompetent Svein suggests that he and his wife join Stig and Ingrid, whom they do not know at all, to celebrate the evening. A few drinks later the ice is broken and the participants hold forth on the tragedy of their dull lives. They completely ignore the extreme heat, the mysterious light, the locusts and the dying fish - because doomsday is a little inconvenient right now.
