TrustNordisk will kick off presales on the epic historical action drama THE LAST KING at Toronto International Film Festival.
Directed by Nils Gaup (PATHFINDER, 1987 and THE KAUTOKEINO REBELLION, 2008) THE LAST KING is based on true events that changed the history of Norway forever and presents a tale set in the Middle Ages about two Norwegian warriors who escape across the mountains in order to bring the last remaining heir to the throne to safety.
Among cast members attached to the film are a number of Norwegian high class actors including Jakob Oftebro (KON-TIKI, 2012; WHEN ANIMALS DREAM, 2014 and THE SHAMER´S DAUGHTER, 2015), Kristofer Hivju (IN ORDER OF DISAPPEARANCE, 2014 and GAME OF THRONES, 2013-2014), Thorbjørn Harr (VIKINGS, 2013-2014) and Pål Sverre Hagen (KON-TIKI, 2012 and RAGNAROK, 2013).
The year is 1205. Norway is torn apart in a Civil war. With the help of the Birch Legs, the Norwegian King is fighting for survival against the Church´s Bishopsmen, who will use any means available to obtain victory. While the King is on his death bed, his only remaining heir is born in secrecy. A boy who half the Kingdom wants dead, but two men will sacrifice everything to protect. The two Birch Legs warriors Skjervald and Torstein set on a perilous journey through the harsh Norwegian winter landscape in order to rescue the two-year-old future king from a terrible fate.
THE LAST KING is produced by Stein B. Kvae and Finn Gjerdrum for Paradox Film 3 AS, co-produced by Nordisk Film, Newgrange Pictures Ltd and Proton Cinema+Theatre with support from Norwegian Film Institute, Irish Film Board and Eurimages. Developed in collaboration with The Media Programme and Film3.
Domestic release is currently set for Q1 2016.
