International distributors are standing in line to acquire the upcoming Scandinavian disaster movie THE WAVE. TrustNordisk has closed a large number of deals at AFM, based on a one-minute teaser from the upcoming film.

THE WAVE has been sold to France (AB Group), Spain (Key2Media Audiovisual), China (New View TV and Media Group), Turkey (Medyavizyon), Middle East (Gulf Film), Hong Kong (Sundream Motion Pictures Limited) and Malaysia, Brunei and Vietnam (Rain Film) with more territories currently in negotiation.

“The amazing hype on and interest for THE WAVE underlines that Norwegian films are hotter than ever and that Norway is one of the leading countries in making genre films for an international audience”, says Rikke Ennis, CEO at TrustNordisk.

Directed by Roar Uthaug (COLD PREY, 2006 and ESCAPE, 2012), THE WAVE is based on true events.

80 years ago, a number of villages in Norway were hit by a huge tsunami when a mountainside collapsed and caused damage and casualties in the fjords. Geologists say that it is just a matter of time, when it will happen again.

Starring Kristoffer Joner (KING OF DEVIL´S ISLAND, 2010 and ALL THAT MATTERS IS PAST, 2012) and Ane Dahl Torp (PIONEER, 2012 and 1001 GRAMS, 2014) among others, THE WAVE takes its starting point just prior to the incident in our time and focuses on an experienced geologist whose worst nightmare is about to come true when the alarm goes off and the disaster is inevitable. With less than 10 minutes to react, it becomes a race against time in order to save as many as possible.

THE WAVE is produced by Martin Sundland and Are Heidenstrøm for Fantefilm Fiksjon in co-production with Fuzz, Filmkraft Invest, Storyline Studios, Film i Väst and Gimpville with support from The Norwegian Film Institute and Nordic Film & TV Fond.

Nordic distribution through Nordisk Film Distribution with release currently set for Autumn 2015.
