TrustNordisk is excited to announce that Norwegian disaster movie THE WAVE has been selected for both Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas and BFI London Film Festival. Next week on September 16th THE WAVE will celebrate its international premiere as a part of the Special Presentations program at Toronto International Film Festival.

THE WAVE had a record breaking opening weekend in Norway, opening as the third best film in Norway ever, with admissions presently reaching almost half a million. The press received the film extremely well calling it a “Nerve wrecking disaster movie from beginning to end.” and a film with “terrifying and convincing” special effects. Further more, THE WAVE has been chosen as Norway´s official Oscar candidate for Best Foreign-Language film at this year´s Academy Awards.

Directed by Roar Uthaug (COLD PREY, 2006 and ESCAPE, 2012), THE WAVE is based on true events.

80 years ago, a number of villages in Norway were hit by a huge tsunami when a mountainside collapsed and caused damage and casualties in the fjords. Geologists say that it is just a matter of time, when it will happen again.

Starring Kristoffer Joner (KING OF DEVIL´S ISLAND, 2010 and ALL THAT MATTERS IS PAST, 2012) and Ane Dahl Torp (PIONEER, 2012 and 1001 GRAMS, 2014) among others, THE WAVE takes its starting point just prior to the incident in our time and focuses on an experienced geologist whose worst nightmare is about to come true when the alarm goes off and the disaster is inevitable. With less than 10 minutes to react, it becomes a race against time in order to save as many as possible.

THE WAVE is produced by Martin Sundland and Are Heidenstrøm for Fantefilm Fiksjon in co-production with Fuzz, Filmkraft Invest, Storyline Studios, Film i Väst, Piggy Bænk, Copenhagen Film Fund, Ghost and Tre Vänner and Gimpville with support from The Norwegian Film Institute and Nordic Film & TV Fond and The Swedish Film Institute.
