PRESS RELEASE: ZENTROPA-PRODUCED SERIES 'AGENT' BY NIKOLAJ LIE KAAS OFFICIALLY SELECTED FOR BERLINALE SERIES 2023

We are pleased to announce that the Zentropa-produced dramedy series AGENT, directed by Nikolaj Lie Kaas and produced for local network TV 2, has been selected for the Berlinale Series as part of this year's official Berlinale programme (16-26 February 2023).

Copenhagen, 16 January 2023 – Berlin International Film Festival has today announced the selection of the fun, intense and touching dramedy series AGENT for this year's festival. AGENT has been selected for the program section 'Berlinale Series', where it will compete with six other international series. I It is the first time an award is given for a series at an A-festival and AGENT will compete for the newly established Berlinale Series Awards. The Award will be presented together with the festival's other awards at the closing awards gala. The series will have its World premiere on the 21 February 2023.

The series is written and directed by talented director and well-established actor Nikolaj Lie Kaas. As an actor, Lie Kaas' credits include the Rotterdam-selected RIDERS OF JUSTICE (2020), the Zentropa-produced DEPARTMENT Q franchise series and lately THE KINGDOM EXODUS (2022). He previously directed the series MR. POXYCAT & CO (2007).

In brief, AGENT is a comedy series about Joe, an industry agent who struggles to keep his clients happy while also being a father. His plans rarely go as planned, and as a result, Joe finds himself in awkward and funny situations. A large number of great and well-known Scandinavian actors and personalities partly act as themselves in the series.

Starring a Scandinavian A-list cast
The series will star EFP Shooting Star 2017 Esben Smed (FOLLOW THE MONEY, 2016-19; HELD FOR RANSOM, 2019; A FORTUNATE MAN, 2018) in the lead alongside César Award-winner Sidse Babett Knudsen (BORGEN, 2010-22; WESTWORLD, 2016-18), Dar Salim (DARKLAND, 2017; GAME OF THRONES, 2011), Ulrich Thomsen (THE MARCO EFFECT, 2021; THE COMMUNE, 2016), and San Sebastian Silver Seashell-winning actor Lars Ranthe (ANOTHER ROUND, 2020) among others. All cast members will take part in the series as more or less caricatured versions of themselves.
 
Synopsis: 
AGENT is a comedy series about Joe, a man who is desperately trying to keep his head above water. Joe is a 35-year-old agent for artists in the Danish entertainment industry whose dreams and ambitions extend far beyond national borders. Unfortunately, things do not always go according to Joe’s plans. In a constant effort to keep his personal problems from piling up, he does everything possible to help his clients. In the midst of the chaos that makes up Joe's life, his 10-year-old daughter longs for his attention.

The series is an intense, funny and touching story about a man with his heart in the right place but with the wrong priorities.

AGENT includes a total of 8 episodes, and is produced by Zentropa for TV 2 with producer Louise Vesth, while Pernille Bech Christensen is the executive producer at TV 2. The series is expected to premiere on TV 2 PLAY and TV 2 in 2023.
