IFC Buys Mads Mikkelsen Western ‘Salvation’ for U.S. Distribution

IFC Films has bougth North American rights to Kristian Levring´s Western “The Salvation,” starring “Hannibal” actor Mads Mikkelsen.

IFC made the deal with from TrustNordisk five days after the film´s world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the out of competition Midnight section.

The story, set in the 1870s in North America and shot in South Africa, is written by Levring and Anders Thomas Jensen (“In a Better World”) and centered on a Danish settler avenging the murder of his family. The international cast includes Eva Green, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Mikael Persbrandt, Eric Cantona and Jonathan Pryce.

Peter Debruge of Variety gave the film an upbeat review, calling it “a highly stylized widescreen revenge picture.”

Sisse Graum Jorgensen is the producer.  Peter Aalbaek Jensen and Peter Garde exec produced.

The deal was negotiated between Susan Wendt of TrustNordisk and Arianna Bocco for IFC.

Previously announced deals for “Salvation” include Benelux (Wild Bunch), Australia/New Zealand (Madman Entertainment), France (Chrysalis/Jour2Fete), Greece (Hollywood Entertainment) and Estonia (Estin Film).
