NEWS FROM THE FESTIVAL

LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED - BIGGEST BIER OPENING EVER.

10. Sep 2012

Susanne Bier’s LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED sets records as it becomes the biggest opening Susanne Bier film ever in Denmark with 100.680 admissions in its opening weekend.
Bier’s last film, the Academy Award-winning IN A BETTER WORLD, opened in August 2010 to a then-career best 48.000 admissions.

World premiering at Venice Film Festival last week and now screening in the Special Presentations program in Toronto, LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED has received great reviews both domestically and...

A Hijacking' Is A Detailed, Gripping & Powerful High-Seas Hostage Tale

06. Sep 2012 / Oliver Lyttelton - THE PLAYLIST

As exciting as it can be to be part of the audience at the first public screening of an eagerly anticipated film – the new Paul Thomas Anderson or Terrence Malick, the new Rian Johnson or David O. Russell – perhaps the purest pleasure that can be found at a film festival is that of discovery. Picking something semi-randomly from the program, with no A-listers, and no internationally-renowned filmmaker at the helm, and walking out a couple of hours later feeling that you’ve uncovered a gem,...

Love Is All You Need / SCREENDAILY

06. Sep 2012 / Dan Fainaru

In her first outing since her Oscar-winning In A Better World, Susanne Bier and her co-writer,
Anders Thomas Jensen come up with a natural born winner, a romantic comedy that pulls out all the
stops, uses all of the genre’s classic formulas.

Dyrholm’s eyes shine every time she turns them on the camera. With a charmingly debonair Pierce Brosnan in one of the leads and Trine Dyrholm, one of the finest Danish
actresses of her generation, opposite him it is...

A HIJACKING - SCREENDAILY review

06. Sep 2012 / Mark Adams / chief film critic

A tense and intricately shot drama, writer/director Tobias Lindholm’s solo debut feature is a powerful and intensely watchable film as it tackles the high-pressure negotiations over a hijacked ship, dwelling not just on those hijacked but also the team back at home trying to secure their release.

The film, which screened in the Orizzonti section of the Venice Film Festival, is a masterful exercise in building the tension, never resorting to quick dramatic tricks and keeping the...

A four queen poker hand in Blondie by Jesper Ganslandt

05. Sep 2012 / Vittoria Scarpa / Cineuropa

More often than not, when there is a family gathering in a film, things end badly. Swedish director, Jesper Ganslandt’s new feature film is no exception to this rule. Blondie [trailer, film focus], an all-female family tale, presented at Venice Days in Venice, combines four extraordinary actresses, all of whom are marvellously blonde.

The blondie that the title refers to is Elin (played by Carolina Gynning, a former model who was also a winner on Sweden’s Big Brother),...
