PRESS RELEASE: A MAN CALLED OVE NOMINATED FOR TWO ACADEMY AWARDS® BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM AND BEST MAKEUP AND HAIRSTYLING

We are very proud to let you know, that Swedish box office smash A MAN CALLED OVE, written and directed by Hannes Holm, has just been chosen by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as one of the five nominees to compete for an Oscar® in the Best Foreign Language Film category. Furthermore the film has also been nominated in the best Makeup and Hairstyle category.

 

In December 2015 A MAN CALLED OVE celebrated a record-breaking opening in Sweden and with over 1.7 million admissions in total and it is the 3rd bestselling local film in Sweden ever. In January 2016 the film took home 3 Guldbagge awards (the swedish Oscars), including the Best Actor Award for Rolf Lassgård. 

In December the film won the prize as Best European Comedy at the European Film Awards in Wroclaw, Poland.

 

In the U.S., Music Box released the film in September to fantastic reviews and boxoffice numbers have now passed 3.3 million dollars and still counting. Other successful international releases are the German and Austrian by Concorde. Here, the film has made more than 3.6 million euro at the boxoffice.

The film is based on the bestselling book by Fredrik Backman, which has been published in more than 30 countries worldwide and tells a heartfelt, poetic and humorous story about a grumpy old man who has given up on everyone including himself. 

 

A MAN CALLED OVE is produced by Annica Bellander Rune and Nicklas Wikström Nicastro for Tre Vänner in co-operation with Film i Väst, SVT, Nordisk Film, Nordsvensk Filmunderhållning and Fantefilm with support from The Swedish Film Institute, Norwegian Film institute and Nordisk Film & TV Fond.  

 

The 89th Academy Awards ceremony will take place on February 26th at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
