A MAN CALLED OVE SHORTLISTED FOR NOMINATION IN THE FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM CATEGORY AT THE 89TH OSCARS

We are very happy and proud to announce that A MAN CALLED OVE has been shortlisted for nomination among the nine films at the Foreign Language Film category at the Academy Awards®. Nominations for the 89th Academy Awards will be announced on January 24th, and the ceremony will be on February 26th at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

 

We are also very happy to announce, that the film has been picked up by Soda Pictures for the UK. Edward Fletcher, co-Managing Director of Soda Pictures, and Susan Wendt of TrustNordisk negotiated the deal, with Fletcher commenting: “Soda is OVE the moon to have secured A Man Called Ove for release in UK & Ireland next Summer; the story has proven success as a novel and now as a film, with the EFA topping off it´s theatrical success globally so far.” 

 

And the success doesn´t stop here: this weekend the film received yet another highly estimated award, when it won the prize as Best European Comedy at the European Film Awards in Wroclaw, Poland. 

Besides the win for A MAN CALLED OVE, Rolf Lassgård also had the honor of being nominated for Best European Actor for his performance in the film.

 

In the U.S., Music Box released the film in September to fantastic reviews and boxoffice numbers have now passed 3.2 million dollars and still counting. Another successful international release is the German and Austrian by Concorde. Here, the film has made more than 3.6 million euro at the boxoffice.

 

In December 2015 A MAN CALLED OVE celebrated a record-breaking opening in Sweden and with over 1.7 million admissions in total, it is the 5th bestselling local film in Sweden ever. In January 2016 the film took home 3 Guldbagge awards (the swedish Oscars), including the Best Actor Award for Rolf Lassgård.

The film is based on the bestselling book by Fredrik Backman, which has been published in more than 30 countries worldwide and tells a heartfelt, poetic and humorous story about a grumpy old man who has given up on everyone including himself. But his life and negative approach to the world is put to the test when a new family moves in next door.

 

A MAN CALLED OVE is produced by Annica Bellander and Nicklas Wikström for Tre Vänner in co-operation with Film Väst, SVT, Nordisk Film, Nordsvensk Filmunderhållning Fantefilm with support from The Swedish Film Institute, Norwegian Film institute and Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
